This candlelight Yin practice will clear your mind, creating a space of lightness during the winter season. When the temperature drops, our Psoas muscle can become tight, causing back pain and hip pain. Yin yoga helps to melt these discomforts away by stretching out the inner connective tissues in the body. Yin yoga is an ancient yoga practice which balances the mental and physical body by stretching the connective tissues to increase pranic flow, or energy flow, of the body. Just as the muscles must be stressed to build strength, the connective tissues must be stressed to build strength. In order to accomplish this, postures are held between 2-7 minutes, depending on the posture. Holding stillness in Yin postures creates a strong meditative practice, strengthening and releasing tension in the physical and mental body. After one practices Yin, a lightness is found; a lightness that is unique to any other Yoga practice. With candles surrounding you, you will feel at peace, grounded and centered.
